At the same time, the engine weight has been reduced by three kilograms and the total weight of the motorcycle by eight kilos. All of the new LC4 engines performance can be perfectly called upon using the brand new six-gear transmission. An extremely robust self-supporting tubular frame has been designed to ensure an optimal distribution of weight. Ergonomically shaped tanks, together with a flat seat unit ensure improved control when tackling even the toughest race segments. Newly designed paneling also ensures that the 690 Rally Replica is not only faster but also significantly more stable at the front end of the machine.I believe this motorycle signs the end of an era; the end of the open class displacement for the dakar race. After the elimination from racing all the prototypes and the limitation on fuel capacity, this further limitation in displacement ( 450 cc for the 2011 dakar) is a sign of a new dakar and hopefully more competition. KTM has ruled the dakar world for a decade and this is the last bike built for that period.

Carb derestrictor before removal and brand new exhausts from X-Racing of Claudio Berlato. Claudio does amazing work with full exhausts and mufflers for a lot of bikes and he is a desert rider afecionado.
Wouldn’t it be cool to have one ! I believe they are the epitome of the dakar bikes . Maybe they should have just backed off the horse power , which they have but still with the same bike as before and the tank range but give the riders a good rest . Have a 640 adv and would love putting the Repsole sticker kit on her , it’s cool to dream when you walk in the shed and see it .
The problem was the fact the nobody else was racing with such a large displacement and even if restricted, the 690 was more powerful that the others. Fair or unfair it is better to have more than a brand interested in this race. My regret is that KTM made too many of them…30 a year for how many years 4-5? Definitely not a prototype like the 80s bikes..
